2005
Northwest Compounders was founded in 2005 by pharmacist Tom Eilers. In a very humble setting, with the help of his 17 year old son Luke, Tom started his independent pharmacy business in a 400 square foot rented space inside of a much larger nursing home pharmacy in Tigard, Oregon. The pharmacy was opened with entirely used fixtures, purchased from Nob Hill Pharmacy, the oldest standing pharmacy in Oregon, which had just closed their doors and liquidated all their fixed assets several months prior to the Northwest Compounders grand opening date in October of that year.

Experience earned the hard way
Tom spent his first 25 years as a pharmacist in retail chain drug store management at two different corporations, serving as pharmacy manager, store manager, pharmacy district manager, and corporate positions including pharmaceutical and OTC drug buyer, and director of managed care and mail order pharmacy. But two corporate leveraged buyouts and the ensuing turmoil that followed convinced Tom to look for a happier way to use his acquired business and pharmacy skills to serve customers and patients.

Credit to the mentor
In 2000, Tom’s old friend and mentor, Russ Perkins, pharmacist, chemist, and owner of University Compounders, convinced Tom to leave corporate America and join him as an independent compounding pharmacist. Tom spent the next 5 wonderful years gaining knowledge and experience in both sterile and non-sterile compounding, through certified courses, numerous seminars, and on-the-job learning. In early 2005, Russ received a purchase offer for his pharmacy that was just too good to refuse. The working relationship ended but the friendship continues to this day.
Founder’s vision leads to growth and transition
Tom’s mission from the outset was simple: Provide the highest quality compounded medications to patients in a prompt, efficient, and friendly manner, at reasonable prices. Staying true to this mantra, business grew rapidly and soon there were growing pains. After just 4 years, the 400 sq. foot space inside the nursing home pharmacy was no longer adequate to sustain growth. The search began for the company’s new location.
A dream realized, and a bright future ahead
In 2009 we moved our facility to just a mile from our original location, to a 5000 sq. foot space in Tualatin. This newly constructed state of the art laboratory incorporated the latest technological advancements and plenty of space to produce the highest quality compounds in a very efficient manner. The current team of pharmacists has over 175 years of collective experience, and includes Tom’s son Luke who earned his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Pacific University in 2014. Our team of pharmacists and technicians are steadfast in their work, dedicated to provide quality compounding services to our community for many years to come.
